Being a volunteer has the unique opportunity to help individuals during one of their greatest times of need. The simplest gestures can have a meaningful impact on someone and provide an enriching experience for you.

Once an individual has decided to give their time as a Pennock Hospital Volunteer, a Volunteer Services Coordinator will contact you to for placement in an assignment that meets interests, schedules, and the Hospital’s needs. The availability of some volunteer positions is dependent upon the needs of the hospital.


As a Pennock Hospice Volunteer, you become a member of a team that is dedicated to embracing patients and their families with care. Pennock Hospice volunteers are sensitive to the needs of others, helping in a variety of areas. Volunteers bring relief, comfort, and support to patients & families, as well as assistance to Hospice staff. Once your application has been submitted, the Pennock Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, Janice Cleary, will contact you directly.

Hospital Assignments

    Escort Volunteer
    To assist the Nursing and Hospital Colleagues as needed through wheelchair transporting, sorting and delivering mail, flowers, etc.

    Courier Volunteer
    To assist the Hospital Colleagues by delivering items to and from hospital departments.

    Clinical Volunteer
    Stationed on a nursing unit, makes rounds of patient's rooms to ensure safety measures are met, provide non-nursing assistance upon request.

    Gift Shop Volunteer
    The Penn-Nook Gift Shop is a retail store operated by volunteers. The hours of operation are from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The shop is closed on Sundays and holidays.

    Greeter Volunteer
    Positioned at the main entrance, these volunteers greet all guests/patients, assess needs, and assist with way-finding.

    Sewing Volunteer
    To sew and make needed items for the hospital.

    Junior Volunteer
    High school students have an opportunity to volunteer during the summer months while the adult volunteers take some time off.

    Hospice Assignments

      Patient Care Volunteer
      Patient care volunteers provide an invaluable service to our terminally ill patients and their families. Volunteers visit patients who live at home, live in care facilities, or at Pennock Hospital. They offer relief for caregivers, and/or companionship, socialization, and emotional support to the patients and their loves ones. Some of the activities they offer include: Reading Listening & emotional support, Sharing a hobby or interest Massage Therapy (must be licensed), Garden or lawn care, Light household chores, and Handyman services.

      Administrative Support Volunteer
      Visiting patients is not for everyone; some volunteers want to be a part of the volunteer family but do so in different ways by choosing to work in the office or in other administrative capacities. Pennock Hospice always appreciates an extra pair of hands.You can help staff in a variety of administration duties, such as: Filing, Data Entry, Making phone calls, Mailing, etc.

      Marketing & Community Outreach Volunteer
      Volunteers assist at booths for health fairs, and other events, such as: Barry County Fair- Senior Day, and Hastings Summerfest.
